A pair of my latest Ladies are comprised of grand, linear Kingman turquoise drops and bright 18k gold rings that create a beautiful, fluid interruption between the elongated gemstones. The unique detail between the Kingman turquoise stones wasn't originally a part of my design, but the best things aren't always planned...
During a recent gem show excursion, I fell in love with the unusual shape and length of these drops. But in post-production, one of these grand turquoise Ladies fell and broke.
To reimagine these earrings, I took a diamond bit and cut the undamaged earring in half, in an intentionally different place, to create more depth in the pair. I sanded and polished the broken ends, then added jump rings for movement and flexibility. These rings make the earrings more durable, as there's now less surface area for the stones the break – the uninterrupted long column was (obviously) fragile!
These gilded additions add a little more interest and depth to the organically refined gemstones, and I personally love the pair even more after the break.
